Samedi Coup de cœur d’Albert Moxhet

Avec, comme œuvre emblématique, un fulgurant verger fleuri de Roger Faufra, l’exposition Printemps à Botrange propose, dans la Maison du Parc naturel Hautes Fagnes-Eifel, une cinquantaine de tableaux de peintres relevant de l’École liégeoise du Paysage.

 
Choisis par Jacques Goijen dans ses collections, ces tableaux s’accordent évidemment avec les lieux en  présentant des paysages de fagnes, mais aussi des évocations printanières correspondant au titre donné à l’exposition. Quelques autres thèmes s’y glissent également, car on sait que les artistes que l’on inclut dans cette tendance postimpressionniste (1880-1950) travaillaient aussi d’autres sujets que le paysage.

Les signatures réunies en cette occasion ne manquent pas d’intérêt. Outre la patte énergique, sensible et très directe de Roger Faufra, on retrouve Richard Heintz, inspirateur incontesté de ce mouvement liégeois, puis aussi Émile Van Aubel, qui exprimait en des couleurs très justes son ressenti de nos paysages. Luc Faisant, excellente observatrice de la nature, en traduit avec délicatesse la riche palette, tandis que sa consoeur Irène Barsin donne une vision subtilement énergique des paysages naturels ou bâtis qui l’impressionnent. L’œuvre de Josef Thoma se retrouve non loin de son lieu de naissance, puisque ce peintre passionné des fagnes avait son atelier à Mützenich.

On redécouvre la touche attentive d’Émile Massin, celle, plus lyrique d’Olivier Chapeau voisinant avec le ton plus classique de Gérard-Antoine Crehay ou le fourmillement de couleurs de Brigitte Delporte. Le brouillard ne rebute pas le fagnard passionné qu’était Lucien Hock, tandis que Robert Liard s’attache aux résultats de l’ouverture à la truite.

Au total, un ensemble réellement printanier, varié et, par-là, représentatif de l’esprit qui définit l’École liégeoise du paysage, une tendance unissant les peintres séduits par nos paysages tout en leur laissant une grande liberté. Libre aussi dans son expression, Jacques Goijen a enregistré La mort du loup, le célèbre poème d’Alfred de Vigny, dans une vidéo dont l’atmosphère évoque des tableaux nocturnes de Dieudonné Jacobs.
